CHA response to public health funding announcement
The Children’s Hospital Alliance (CHA) acknowledges the government’s recent announcement of increased public health funding. Any additional resources are welcomed, particularly if they are focused on improving child health and reducing health inequalities.
Our members have regularly raised concerns about the impact of reduced resources for children’s public health, especially in key preventative services such as health visiting and school nursing. The recent Darzi review highlighted the increasing complexity, ongoing social needs and rising demand across paediatric services.
Alexandra Norrish, managing director of the CHA, said: “We are looking forward to the publication of the NHS Ten-Year Plan later this year and we are hopeful that it will focus on the health and wellbeing needs of babies, children, young people and their families across the NHS, as part of a national population health strategy.
“We welcome any investment into improving child health and it is vitally important that we focus on moving to a truly preventative service, focused on early diagnosis and treatment so that our children and young people are able to grow into a healthier adult population.”
